The Dry Creek Valley region of Sonoma County has distinguisheditself as a premier appellation for growing Zinfandel. Thenorth-south orientation of the valley limits the daytime coastalfog influence, providing warm to hot days for ripening the grapesfor robust red wines. Yet the nights still cool enough to allow forthe retention of color and acidity. The distinctive jammy and spicyflavors are consistently evident in the grapes we source for theLake Sonoma Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel.

WinemakerNotes

Situated in the northern most part of Sonoma County, theAlexander Valley provides a long growing season with the warm daysrequired for ripening world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2009vintage was quite even tempered and allowed the grapes to developripe fruit flavors and fine tannin structure. The grapes wereharvested in mid-October, fermented warm on skins, then pressed andaged in barrels for nearly two years before blending andbottling.

This elegant, well-balanced Zinfandel is characterized by warmnotes of dried cherry, blackberry, ground pepper and cinnamontoast.

WinemakerNotes
The2008 Old Vine Zinfandel was produced from 77 year old head-trainedand 42 year old trellised dry farmed vineyards, both in gravellybench land in the Dry Creek Valley. The grapes for this winewere crushed and fermented warm, pumping juice from the tank bottomover the cap of floating skins on a regular basis. The winewas pressed off the skins slightly sweet and racked to 60 gallonFrench and American oak barrels, where it completed fermentationand was aged a total of 18 months.

The concentrated fruit and spice flavors of this wine are bestenjoyed with full-flavored meat or tomato dishes and strongcheeses.
